LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
7th October 2009

Dear Parents and Pupils,

We have had an exciting first week here at EBIS. After three months of planning and waiting, students and teachers alike were more than ready to begin classes on Saturday. Since then, students’ have been captivated by their teachers and are enthusiastic about the interactive smart boards. Lessons are already in full swing; however organisational issues such as supplies and such are being fine tuned. Please be patient and communicate your concerns to the appropriate teacher through the Pupil Planner. We are happy to hear your feedback and answer your questions. This month our school theme is personal organisation. Please share with your classmates and teachers different ways that you are planning on staying organised this year.

Bell Schedule
Due to concern about student fatigue and health, the ELS/EBIS administration has decided to shorten the school day for EBIS pupils. On Sundays – Wednesdays, students will be dismissed at 3:35. On Thursdays, students will be dismissed at 2:35. We hope this will allow students to complete their homework assignments to our expectations and still be able to sleep early so as to be ready for the next day of learning! The new dismissal timings will begin tomorrow, Thursday October 8th.

Representative, Prefect, & Knight Nominations
Nomination forms for students interested in being Representatives, Knights, or Prefects are available with house masters. House Representatives are for pupils in years 4 & 5, Prefects are pupils in years 6 & 7, and Knights/Lady Knights are for pupils in year 8. The deadline for submitting completed applications to housemasters is WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14TH. Signatures from the appropriate faculty members may only be collected before school, after school, and during breaks. Teachers will only sign the form of students deserving the position!

Wow Words & Profound Quote
Interested in earning house points? Submit a WOW Word with its definition (to be displayed outside 10 Downing St.) or a profound quote (to be displayed outside Buckingham Palace) to your Housemaster on Wednesday. If it is chosen to be displayed for the next week, you will receive 1 house point from me! Any student who uses the WOW Word in Class will be awarded 1 house point from his/her teacher.

Ministry of Education Sports Competitions
The Ministry of Education is organising a sports championship in both individual and team sports. Many different sports are included in the championship. If your child plays a sport at a sporting club and is interested in competing, please complete the attached form. Once received, we will send the application form and permission slip.

Yours in Education,

Rania El-Sioufi, Director
Egyptian British International School

EBIS Read-a-thon
Mrs. Batte is organising a school-wide, yearlong read-a-thon. Pupils will receive information beginning next week. The more books a student reads, the more house points s/he earns! See your English teachers for more information starting Sunday.
