LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
25th November 2009

Dear Parents and Pupils,

I wish you all a blessed Bairam. While we are not in school, teachers have prepared video lessons and assignments so that we do not fall behind on the required curriculum. Please remember to log onto the forum and complete all required assignments. The forum web address is: ebis.forumotion.net . Assignments are due upon our return to school unless otherwise announced by teachers. International Tolerance Day exposed our students to a variety of cultures and widened their world view. Enjoy your vacation and make sure to check the forum daily.

Wow Words
Our wow word for Bairam vacation is ‘Tolerant’, pronounced tóllərənt, an adjective meaning accepting different views. For example: The EBIS students were displayed tolerance as they studied the Algerian viewpoint regarding the controversial football match they played against Egypt.

School Calendar Changes
School will be closed to celebrate the Greater Bairam holiday, as per the Ministry of Education, from Thursday, November 26th until Saturday, December 5th. Students will return to school on Sunday, December 6th, school hours will be from 7:30am until 3:00pm.

EBIS Online Forum
All students should be registered on the EBIS forum. I ask each student to register with their class under the tab “Groups”. Please note that the work that is posted to the forum will count toward term grades. Most worksheets were distributed to students before they left for vacation. Accompanying video lessons are posted online. We will continue to use the forum as an academic tool throughout the year.

EBIS Read-a-thon
Students, I highly encouraged you to READ, READ, READ! Please complete and colour one Turtle for each book that you have read and submit it to your Literacy teacher when you return on December 6th. Will your castle win the Pizza Party for reading the most books during the month of December? The castle that won the November pizza party will be announced when you return.

House Points
England is still in the lead with 396 points. Scotland is maintaining its position in second place with 358 points. Wales is only a few points behind 355 points. Northern Ireland students remains in last place with 327 points.

Term Exams
EBIS students will sit term exams as scheduled covering all material that has been taught in class. Please note that teachers will provide a study guide two weeks prior to exams. These topics have been taught in class thoroughly. Students are not expected to relearn the material.

Yours truly,

Rania El-Sioufi, Director
