LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
15th October 2009

Dear Parents and Pupils,

Our second week of school has been MORE – more organisation, more learning, and more fun. Students are having a blast preparing for Halloween with Mrs. Mohamed in art and they are excited with the new international physical education curriculum. Learning is slowly picking up speed. During assembly, students learned about H1N1 precautions and the EBIS Read-a-Thon. H1N1 rumours are rampant in Egypt. I ask that parents regard any information they receive outside Director’s Letters as a rumour. As director, it is my responsibility to keep you updated regarding any important information or news that will affect you or your child. Students, please be aware that the school policy is to line up outside of a classroom and enter in an orderly fashion. This will be heavily enforced beginning next week. See you on Sunday!

EBIS Read-a-thon
Mrs. Batte is organising a school-wide, yearlong read-a-thon. Pupils will receive information beginning next week. The more books a student reads, the more house points s/he earns! See your English teachers for more information starting Sunday.

School & Hygienic Supplies
School supplies were collected from students will be distributed by teachers. Items like lined paper, sheet protectors, and coloured pencils are available in each classroom were their use will be monitored by teachers. Hygienic supplies are also available in each classroom and students are now familiar with the procedure for their use at the beginning and end of each lesson and during their trips to the restroom. These policies were put in place so that no supplies are wasted and class time isn’t spent on retrieving supplies. Please communicate with your children that supplies are available with the class teacher and that they shouldn’t panic that they were collected. Also, I am aware that Detol hand wash is difficult to come by these days; I ask that parents send them once they are again available in the Egyptian Market.

House Points
Students are still getting into the House Spirit. Congratulations to Northern Ireland pupils for their overwhelming point accumulation this week, you earned a total of 38 points! Your hard work and team spirit has paid off. Scotland, you are not far behind with 29 points, I would like to see you give Northern Ireland some competition. Wales (with 19 points) and England (with 14 points), your teachers have noticed that while you are earning many points, you are losing almost as many. Speaking out of turn and in Arabic are too chief actions that are being reported. Don’t forget that Wow Words and Profound Quotes are two ways that you can earn House Points. Give them to your Housemaster on Thursdays during registration.

Communication
Parents, please report any questions or concerns in your child’s Pupil Planner. Teachers will respond to all communication through the planner. Please reserve phone calls for emergencies.

Bus/Gate Cards
Bus cards have been distributed to students. Gate cards will be distributed by Sunday. Students are required to wear them daily beginning Monday. If they have lost theirs, please make a note in the pupil planner so that Mrs. Rashad can advise you of the proper procedure to procure another.

Yours in Education,

Rania El-Sioufi, Director
