LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
19th November 2009

Dear Parents and Pupils,

I have arranged with Baker Books to extend our submission deadline until next Monday. I cannot overstate the importance of building your home libraries. This is especially true this year as our students are spending so many planned academic days studying from home. Investing in books is investing in your child’s future!

Wow Words
Last week’s wow word was submitted by Alia Essam, Scotland, – Animation. Next week, our wow word is ‘Convenient’ an adjective meaning: at hand; easily accessible. For example: Their house is convenient to all transportation. Hashem Elezabi (Northern Ireland). Use it correctly in writing or in class and earn one point for your house!

Profound Quotes
John Woodan, former UCLA & Basketball Coach, said: “How a person plays a game shows some their character, how a person loses a games shows all of it.” Submitted by Shahd Nader (Glenarm), Scotland.

School Calendar Changes
This Saturday, the 21st of November, EBIS will hold a special school day. School hours will be from 7:30am until 2:00pm. School will be closed to celebrate the Greater Bairam holiday, as per the Ministry of Education, from Thursday, November 26th until Saturday, December 5th. Students will return to school on Sunday, December 6th.

EBIS Online Forum
As of Wednesday evening, we had 169 registered users. We will continue to use it as an academic tool throughout the year. I expect any student who has not registered to register within the next few days. Expect more e-learning during the extended EID vacation.

EBIS Read-a-thon
Students, I highly encouraged you to READ, READ, READ! Please complete and colour one Turtle for each book that you have read and submit it to your Literacy teacher when you return. Will your castle win the Pizza Party for reading the most books this month? The last day to submit your turtles is Wednesday, the 25th of November.

House Points
England has taken the lead with 320 points. After staying in third place for several weeks, Scotland has moved up to second place with 289 points. Good Job! Wales fell to 3rd place with 276 points. Northern Ireland students need to pull together as are still in last place with 241 points.

Term Exams
EBIS students will sit term exams as scheduled covering all material that has been taught in class. Please note that teachers will provide a study guide two weeks prior to exams. These topics have been taught in class thoroughly. Students are not expected to relearn the material.

Yours truly,

Rania El-Sioufi, Director
