We have been reading Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo. The novel relates the experiences of a young soldier fighting in the trenches of the Western Front during the First World War

Our Task

You are asked to write a research based assignment into Life in the Trenches. Please follow the instructions on each slide of this presentation in order to get the highest marks possible.

Introduction

All assignments should have an introduction. Here you are asked to write a piece explaining all about Trench Warfare. Here you should include diagrams and pictures showing what a trench looked like. You should write a glossary of all key terms. Use the links on this presentation to help you with this.

Timeline

Here a timeline of the First World War would be great. Remember to include the names of all the important battles that took place. Use the template I gave you for your History assignment.

Chapter Headings

Here you should break all of your work down into Chapter Headings. It is up to you how you arrange this but here are some suggested headings (in no particular order).

2 “Going Over the Top”
3 Problems with Health and Hygiene
4 Morale in the trenches
5 Casualties and losses
6 Maintaining Discipline in the Trenches
7 Soldiers’ personal experiences ( a great opportunity to use some of the famous poems from this time).

How your work should be presented

You should include in your work a title page, a contents page and all pages should be numbered.

Your work should be typed using Times New Roman Font 12.
