Dearest year six..
The following is an assignment to get your brains working until we see each other on Sunday! You need to either copy it or print it (by pasting it in a word document) and then answer the questions which are word problems. It is due Sunday 15th November.
Word Problems
1. The first year we had a school fete we raised £312. We raised ten times as much money this year. How much did we raise?
2. We are going to the garden centre to buy plants for the school garden. Plants are 43p each. A tray contains 10 plants; a box contains 10 trays. If we buy a box of plants, how much would it cost?
3. A farmer planting cabbages knows that each cabbage plant has to have enough earth to grow fully. The farmer has enough space to plant 23 rows of cabbages, with 67 in each row. How many cabbage plants could he grow altogether?
4. An engineer calculated that a wall would need to be 458 bricks along (wide) and 37 bricks high.
How many bricks will he need?
5. I have to take two 5ml spoonfuls of medicine three times a day. I need to keep taking my medicine like this for 5 days. How many ml of medicine will I take?
6. In a theatre, there are 30 rows of seat. Each row has 25 seats. If all the seats are taken how many people are watching the show?
7. I am twice as old as my son. He is 6 years older than his sister.
I am 48 years old now, how old is my daughter?
8. I need 150 grams of flour to make 12 fairy cakes.
How much flour would I need to make 30 of these fairy cakes for a party?
9. For a football match, they sell tickets according to the class you sit in. For class 1: £50, for class 2: £25, for class 3: £15. If 12360 fans were in class 3, 5876 were in class 2, and 2500 were in class 1, how much money did the stadium recieve for selling the tickets in each class? How much did it recieve altogether?
10. There are 24 sweets in a bag. For a fair, the school buys 160 sweet bags. Each bag costs £5.
(a) How much money did the school pay for the sweets?
(b) How many sweets did it buy altogether?
