The Railway Children
Chapters Ten and Eleven
Task 1:
After a quarrel, the children agree to "bury the hatchet". Find out what this saying means and look up other sayings using The Phrase Finder (
www.phrases.org.uk/index.html)- website that has sayings and provides their meanings. Look up 5 “sayings” (colloquial expressions) and record their meanings in your Vocab/Lit notebook. Next write the saying on one side of an index card and the meaning on the back. We will quiz each other in class.
Task 2:
Look up the definitions of the following: indignantly, quarrelling, rubbish, drivel, evidence, traitor, parapet, hideous. Write the definition and use it in a sentence in your Vocab/Lit notebook. (Note: 8 words, definitions and sentences)
Task 3:
Read the quotes below. Write a paragraph for each in your vocabulary/literature notebook what the sentences means to you.

Task 4:
a) The children watch a paper chase. Research what a paper chase is. Do a search using Wikipedia using the term "paper chase". Write a 200 word description on A4 paper.
b) If every student completes all of the assignment we can play a game of paper chase during one of our classes.
