Chapter Three Assignments
Task 1:
1. In this chapter the children have met several different railway workers. They are beginning to learn the times of the trains and give them names. What do the call the 9:15 up? The 10:7 down? The midnight down express? Why do they give the trains names? Write your answers in your Vocab/Literature notebook.
2. Who do they anticipate will arrive on the Green Dragon?
3. Describe a time when you were separated from either your mother or father? How did it feel? How did you imagine the time when you were reunited? Write two paragraphs on A4 lined paper. Use paragraphs (4-6 Sentences). Check COPS (Capitals, Organization, Spelling and Punctuation). Minimum 100 words. On completion, place in your Novel file.
Task 2:
Reread pages 52-53. Why do you think their mother becomes emotional when Phyllis asks, “Are you fonder of us than Granny was of you when you were little?”
Write one paragraph (6 sentences) why you think mothers care very deeply for their children.
Task 3:
Read the quote below. Write a paragraph in your vocabulary/literature notebook what the sentences means to you. Use your ideas from Task 2 to support your argument.
