Synonyms – words that have the same or almost the same meaning as that of another
word.
Directions: choose a word from the box that has the same meaning as the underlined
word in the sentence.
Then, write a sentence using the word you have chosen.
Finally, think of one additional synonym for each underlined word and write it on your paper.

1. Latrice wanted a genuine antique dresser for her room.
2. The plants are very tough; they can survive cold winters.
3. The party was a complete disaster; nobody showed up.
4. You can’t miss the store because of its noticeable purple awning.

Sentence Combining:

Directions: - combine each pair of sentences by inserting a word or phrase from one
sentence into the other.
- you may need to add commas or change the forms of words
- write your answers on your paper.

1. Hank fixed his brothers bicycle. He fixed it yesterday.
2. Have you seen my jacket? The jacket is green.
3. We hid Mom’s presents. We hid them in the garage.
4. My friend sent me an email. She lives in San Francisco.
5. The tulips are beautiful this year. They are around the mailbox.
