about the H.w could you please advise from where i can get page 8,9 to answer the worksheet`How have things changed? and also i got a sheet with title ``The enormous Turnip` from where i can get or let her read this story?

I think the objectives you recieved are incorrect! Sad Pages 8-9 are in a photo copied booklet titled 'How have things changed?: At Home'.

Below I have posted the week objectives:

Year 1: Ms. Harkin

Science

Topic: Materials for a specific use.

Objective:
• Children will learn about different types of materials.
• Children will learn about different uses of materials.

Homework:
Pupil book: pages 14, 15, 16 and 17.
Read each page carefully and answer the questions supplied (Page 15: Questions 1, 2, 3, 4 and page 17: questions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5). The children should be answering these questions in their Science copybook, making sure they write (Using a pencil) the date and title – The title is at the top of the page in the workbook. Children should write the question first and then the answer.

Assignment:
Children should collect small samples of materials e.g. rubber (a rubber band is adequate), metal (safety pin or paper clip), cotton wool etc (The students are advised not to collect glass as a material). They should label each material. All of the samples should be stuck on a piece of card that will eventually be used for classroom decoration.
After they have collected all these samples they should choose a material that they think is suitable to make a model house. For example they could choose to make a model house from tooth picks – wood.
The model house should be approximately width 20cm x 20cm and height 20cm (Please stick to these exact measurements).

Vocabulary:
The children will need to know the correct spelling and meaning for each word. (They will be tested on this in the exam)
Transparent, waterproof, hard, soft, strong, rough, smooth, light, heavy.

History

Topic: Different names for different types of housing.

Objective:
• Children will learn about different types of housing.
• Children will learn the names of different housing.

Lesson and assignment below.

Homework:
Developing History: page 33
Children should label the different types of houses using the word bank provided. When they have completed this they should draw a picture of their own home (on a large chart paper – A3) and label it with the words provided in the word bank. Then continue to complete the sentence on page 33. (I live in a .....).
How have things changed? At Home: page 8 and 9.
The children should carefully read pages 8 and 9 and answer the questions on worksheet provided ‘How have things changed?’.

Assignment:
The History and science assignment are integrated together to produce one project. The children should label the house they produced using their preferred material in science (They can do so by using small stickers). The children should use all the words in the work bank supplied to label the house.
They should also write a description of what house they made on the worksheet provided.


Vocabulary:
The children will need to know the correct spelling and meaning for each word. (They will be tested on this in the exam)
Caravan, terraced, semi-detached, bungalow, flat, detached, door, window, chimney, roof, wall, glass.

Geography

Topic: workplace

Objective:
• Children will learn to recognise buildings which are workplaces.
• Children will discuss jobs that people do in the workplace.
• Children will learn names of different types of land and identify there use.
Lesson and assignment below.

Homework:
Geography in action 1: page 25 ‘workplace’.
Children should label each workplace using the word bank at the bottom of the page to help. Then choose one workplace and draw a picture of a person who might be found in that building, wearing the clothes they would wear (The drawing should be on A4 size paper, don’t forget date and title – Workplace).
Geography in action 1: page 26 ‘land uses’.
Children should name each of the land uses shown on the worksheet, for example, the first picture shows large fields the use for this land is farming. There is also a box available for the children to tick or cross to say if they have them close to their school or not.

Assignment:
Geography in action 1: page 27 and 28 ‘Paradise road’.
The children should carefully cut the instructions of the page and join page 27 and 28 together with glue (The buildings should be joined together to look like a street). There is a separate box under each building with space to write what the land use is and what people’s jobs may be. Once the children have written what the land use and jobs are they can colour the buildings. (No colouring pens to be used please)
-The ‘paradise road’ worksheet should then be stuck onto chart paper.


Vocabulary:
The children will need to know the correct spelling and meaning for each word. (They will be tested on this in the exam)
Bank, school, shop, police station, fire station, forest, fields, factory, car park.

Literacy

Topic: Plots and Plays.

Objectives:
• Children will learn how to re-write a story in their own words.
• Children will learn how to understand and use nouns correctly.
Lesson and assignment below.

Homework:
Worksheet - ‘nouns on the farm’.
Children should carefully read the instructions and definition of a noun at the top of the worksheet. They should fill in the missing words using the word box to help.

Assignment:
Story – ORT reading book
The children should read the ORT story book. (The parent should encourage the child to read the story themselves but can help them read words that they don’t understand).
The Literacy and ICT assignments have been integrated to make one project.

ICT assignment:

Write a report about the ORT story book, illustrating it with relevant

graphics:
• Launch the Microsoft word 2007.
• Insert a word art title for the name of the story.
• Format the layout of the word art.
• Write ‘author’ then enter his/her name.
• Write ‘The date of publication’ then enter the date.
• Write ‘what you have learnt from the story’ then enter the moral that you’ve learnt after reading the story.
• Format the font size: 20, Font style: Bold, Font colour: any colour you like.
• Highlight the text and insert bullets.
• Copy related graphics from the internet.
• Format the text wrapping of these graphics.
• Write your name at the bottom of the report.

Grammar

Children should re-type the story using Microsoft word using font size: 20, Font style: Bold, Font colour: any colour you like. Once they have printed the story (Remember punctuation – full stops, capital letters) they should underline all the nouns in the story.

Dear Ms. Harkin,

I would like to ask about the last homework, it is very difficult for Selim to write any of these long words like transparent, etc... also he can not write sentences in science, it is long and difficult even for copying.
He should know how to write and read at this stage or this is just a practice and after he will get used. I don't think for my son he will be able to read and write at the end of the year especially that they are not going to school because of the closure every two weeks.

I am very confused and I don't think that the copying way will help him to be able to read and write. Please I need help, we are doing at home the reading books for age 5 not even for 6 years to help him to start from the begining and no progress.
