Y6 Geography Assignment: Human Impact on the weather?

Introduction

Cars, factories and power stations put huge quantities of fumes into the atmosphere. As a result, air pollution is getting so bad it is having a serious affect on the weather. Smog is a problem in many cities in the summer months.

Acid rain, sulphur and nitrogen pollution, falls to the ground and kills trees, poisons lakes and eats into stonework.

Dangerous gases build up in the air above Antarctica and the North Pole during winter months. In the spring, these gases react with sunlight and destroy the later of ozone which protects the Earth from harmful rays for the sun.

In the last few hundred years, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased. This trapping of heat from the sun is making temperatures rise. Global warming is making storms worse, particularly in the tropics.

Your task: Research how the weather in Cairo is affected by the smog, acid rain, ozone hole and global warming. Write a 250 word document using proper writing conventions and punctuation. Include charts showing the changes in the last 50 years. Include a bibliography using the format given to you for your history project. Prepare notes for a 2 minute oral presentation for class using Index cards.
