The Railway Children Chapter One Questions

Task 1: Answer the questions in complete sentences in Vocab/Lit book.

1. What do we mean by genre?
2. What genre do you think The Railway Children is and why? (Think, Pair and Share)
3. What is the setting at the beginning of the novel? How do we know? Find descriptions of setting.
4. What happens to the father?
5. What does the mother like to do?
6. What are the names and ages of the three children?
7. Describe be the personalities of each of the children.
8. Why do you think Mother thinks it is important to take only the useful things?
9. Do you think the children get along? Provide an example from the novel supporting your opinion.
10. If you had to suddenly leave your home, what items would you pack? Why?
11. Do you think the children are excited to leave their home and live in the country?
12. What role do you think trains will serve in the story?

Task 2: Write a poem for a friend or relative's upcoming birthday.

Task 3: Read the quote write a paragraph what it means to you.
