Year 1

January 17
Weekly Assignments
Sunday
Literacy: Assigned ORT reading book and work booklet.
Spellings.
Science: Children should collect 5 SMALL objects made from different materials. The children should know the name of each material and object e.g. Wooden spoon, plastic cup, and a metal spoon. (If possible children should put a sticker on these objects with their name so they know which object is theirs. These objects will be used in an experiment).

Monday
Literacy: Spellings.
Numeracy: HCM 15 worksheet

Tuesday
Literacy: Spelling
Numeracy: Sheet 6 term -2
Humanities: Read pages 6 and 7 carefully. Circle the differences on each house. Do you know the names for each thing?

Wednesday

Children must write a 4 line rhyme, for example, they could write about their favourite colour.
I like the colour red,
It’s the colour of my bed.
This is my sister’s favourite colour too,
But sometimes she likes blue.

Numeracy: Sam’s Day work sheet

Thursday
Literacy: Add a beat to your poem either clapping or using an instrument. You will perform this poem to the rest of the class in Sunday’s lesson.

HOW TO PRACTICE YOUR SPELLING

Spelling is learnt in a variety of ways. We encourage the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check system outlined below.
LOOK – at the word, look for common blends (e.g. sh, ght).
SAY – say it to yourself.
COVER – cover the word; it is best not to copy the word letter by letter, but to think of the whole as a whole unit.

WRITE – the word that has been practiced.
